Why a cat fountain pump stops working
Nine times out of ten it is not the pump. Work through these in order.

1. Water level
The pump fails if it runs dry. Fill between MIN and MAX and listen — a gurgling sound means it is drawing air.
2. Hair in the rotor
Take the pump out, pull off the cover and brush the rotor with the cleaning brush. Do this weekly and most stoppages never happen.
3. Clogged sponge
A dark, packed sponge starves the pump. Replace it with the filter.
4. A worn pump
After cleaning, if it still hums without moving water or doesn't start, swap in a replacement pump — it's rated for up to two years.
